ASHRAE High School Senior Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
Overview
Four renewable one-year scholarships, each worth $3,000, are available for high school seniors who will be entering their first full-time year of college. Awards are intended for students enrolling in pre-engineering, engineering, or engineering technology bachelor’s degree programs that historically prepare graduates for careers in the HVAC&R field.
Eligibility
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a high school senior about to begin full-time college study.
- Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and/or rank within the top 30% of their graduating class.
- Have been accepted into an engineering, pre‑engineering, or engineering technology program at a post‑secondary institution that satisfies at least one of the institutional criteria below.
Acceptable institutional criteria (at least one required)
The student’s program or institution must meet one or more of the following:
- The school hosts a recognized ASHRAE Student Branch.
- The program holds accreditation from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) or from PAHRA (Partnership for Air‑Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation).
- The program is accredited by an agency outside the United States that is a signatory to the Washington Accord or the Sydney Accord.
- The program is accredited by an agency that has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with ABET.
How to apply / Required materials
All application materials must be received by the stated deadline to be eligible for review. Submit the application plus these documents:
1. Official academic transcript. The transcript must be sent directly from your high school registrar (mailed, sent via an approved electronic transcript service, or delivered by the registrar). Photocopies will not be accepted.
2. Official letter of admission from the post‑secondary institution.
3. Three signed letters of recommendation:
- One from a teacher or school advisor,
- One from a current or former employer,
- One additional character reference (not a family member).
Materials sent after the deadline or incomplete packets will not be considered.
