Introduction The SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. (SBMCF) provides annual college scholarships of up to $5,000 per recipient. Awards are granted based on demonstrated financial need, involvement in school and community activities, academic performance, and the quality of the applicant’s writing. Eligibility - Must be a U.S. citizen and a full‑time resident of Hartford, Tolland, or Windham County. - Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or rank in the top 40% of your high school class. - Include a complete copy of your submitted 2026–2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a valid 2024–2025 Federal Student Aid Report (SAR). - The applicant’s full name is to appear only on page 2 of the application. All other pages should display only the last four digits of the applicant’s Social Security number. To preserve anonymity during review, Scholarship Committee members must not be able to identify applicants; any additional pages that reveal the applicant’s full name or full SSN may lead to disqualification. - You must be applying to or currently enrolled full time at an accredited two‑ or four‑year college or university in Connecticut. Application review process All submissions are first checked by the SBMCF Scholarship Director and staff to confirm completeness and that all required documents are included. Complete applications are then evaluated through a blind review by the SBMCF Scholarship Committee. The Committee weighs financial need, extracurricular and community involvement, academic achievement, and written materials. Applications recommended by the Committee undergo an independent financial review by a Financial Analyst to verify need. The Scholarship Committee makes the final award determinations. Timeline Applications are accepted each year from January through March for the upcoming academic year (which begins in September). Scholarship recipients are notified and awards are announced in June.
