While Maine is consistently ranked among the three safest states to drive in the U.S., the state recently experienced nearly a threefold increase in motorcycle fatalities compared with earlier years. New Hampshire also reported a 6% rise in crash-related deaths in 2024. With a goal of improving roadway safety and reducing these tragic outcomes, we are launching the 2026 Headlights for Hope Scholarship to encourage awareness and generate practical ideas for preventing motorcycle accidents and distracted driving.
